Ring in the New Year: 7 Tips for Glowing Skin Straight from the Runway
If there’s one beauty trend we can count on seeing on the runway this year, it’s sexy, glowing skin! Models’ smooth and luminous skin is one that women worldwide are trying to achieve.
So how do these beauties keep their skin looking fantastic on the catwalk?
Here are seven of their best secrets to achieving radiant skin.
The outside of your body reflects what’s going on inside; glowing skin begins with what you eat.
Take a load off your system and benefit your skin by drinking lemon water and green tea (flushing toxins from the body), cutting out sugar, alcohol and salty snacks and by upping your intake of fresh fruits and vegetables.
If you’re a busy girl who is always on the go, try juicing to ensure your intake includes adequate vitamins and minerals.
B vitamins not only increase blood flow to your cells, but also slow down the signs of aging. Vitamin D helps skin appear less sallow and vitamin C is key to achieving a bright, even complexion. Superfoods such as nuts, salmon and avocado contain essential fatty acids which are a must for healthy, youthful skin.
In addition to getting their hair and makeup done before a fashion show, models will prep with facials. We can do the same at home by cleansing thoroughly with products that combine vitamin C with natural skin brighteners like bearberry, licorice, mulberry and brightening peptides. Exfoliate with products that contain alpha hydroxy acids, such as glycolic acid, and follow with a moisturizing cloth mask.
3. Topical Nutrition
Add to the radiance by applying a hydrating serum or balm. Two great antioxidant boosters to look for are green tea and grape seed extracts. These powerful bioflavonoids defend against elements such as the sun, stress and pollution, which can damage collagen and accelerate visible signs of aging. In addition, they allow your skin to reap more benefits by protecting vitamin C from oxidation.
You may have heard that moisturizing is important, but to achieve bright, dewy skin, it is a must! Try an oil, which evens out skin tone and gives it a healthy-looking texture and subtle glow. Coconut oil has antioxidant properties and helps destroy free radicals or non-comedogenic jojoba oil, which is similar to skin sebum, balances oil production.
Apply these products by warming them with your fingers and working them into your skin in circular motions. Leave to soak in for a few minutes, then, if desired, apply another layer to create a great finish that is ready for foundation.
A light coat of foundation gives a dewy, youthful finish that will not crease. Makeup artists often dilute foundation with a small dab of moisturizer to help blend the color into the skin, using fingers or a makeup sponge.
Create a tan glow by mixing a few drops of a darker foundation in with regular foundation, allowing you to look bronzed without additional makeup. To set foundation, use a translucent mineral powder applied with a large, fluffy brush, which avoids a mask-like, older appearance.
6. Radiant Blushes and Bronzers
For healthy-looking color, opt for a natural-looking bronzer or blush. Rosy cheeks or a sun kissed glow wakes up the skin in a beautiful way and adds life to the face. To achieve a “lit from within” look, choose an illuminating shade rather than a matte one and apply it everywhere the sun hits your face like your forehead, nose and cheeks. This helps to create runway looking skin in seconds!
7. Beauty Sleep
To truly radiate from the inside out, sleep is a must! Sleep affects your physical and mental well being and allows your body to heal itself. Lack of sleep causes blood vessels to dilate, thereby increasing dark under eye circles, which can make you appear angry or sad, and certainly older. A melatonin supplement can help regulate your natural sleep cycles which, in turn, leads to glowing skin.
