Oscar Makeover: Fashion, Make-Up, Hair…The Whole Nine Yards

Days after the much anticipated 86th annual Academy Awards, people still can’t stop talking about Hollywood’s big night. With Ellen DeGeneres sharing pizza and taking selfies with all of our celebrity favorites, Pharrell getting everyone up to dance and be “Happy,” and John Travolta mispronouncing names – there were several memorable moments to take away from this year’s Oscar’s. But more importantly, we must take note of the beauty and glamour that we saw on the red carpet. Want to get an Oscar-worthy makeover? We’ll tell you how:

CHOOSE YOUR CELEBRITY SPIRIT ANIMAL

Pick your favorite Oscar-inspiration and read up on how you can create the look and make it your own.

Lupita Nyong’o: Your Inner Princess

HOW SHE DID IT:

In a stunning baby blue Prada gown, Lupita has been unofficially crowned as this year’s “Best Dressed.” By taking her color inspiration from her home, Nairobi, she not only looked stunning, but felt comfortable by wearing something that reminded her of home. Her jewelry and beautiful headband made her look like the princess that she was that evening.

MAKE IT YOUR OWN:

To pull off the “beautiful princess” look, it’s all about classic simplicity. To look like Lupita in your own makeover, it’s essential to choose a bold color (preferably one that inspires you or has personal meaning); find a pretty, full skirt, and pairing the right accessories. By wearing natural makeup, a classic hairstyle, basic accessories (like a headband, or a simple necklace), and choosing one color that compliments your skin – your confidence and personality get to be the focus of your beauty, and your outfit just enhances them.

Emma Watson: Pretty with an Edge

HOW SHE DID IT:

As a famous actress and a well-known fashionista, Emma Watson’s gown picks are often at the top of Best Dressed lists. In this silvery black Vera Wang gown, Emma kills it yet again on the red carpet. With natural makeup and elegant yet messy hair, Emma uses the contrast of her natural beauty with this striking dress to emphasize her best features.

MAKE IT YOUR OWN:

To get Emma’s look, pair natural eye makeup (using a soft brown palette) with a red lip. Instead of using a smoky look to darken your eyes (which can be the instinct when wearing a sparkly or dark outfit), using softer colors create a better pairing of a bold, red lip with a dark dress. An easy alternative to Emma’s beautifully unruly hair-do would be to rock a messy ponytail. To top it off, make sure you take note of Emma’s manicure and go with a deep red nail polish to look red carpet ready.

Charlize Theron: The Little Black Sexy Dress

HOW SHE DID IT:

The gorgeous Charlize Theron is no stranger to the red carpet. She has been turning heads at the Oscar’s for years. But with this gown, Charlize has taken the “little black dress” and transformed it into a new kind of fashion statement. Charlize paired a form fitting gown, dramatic plunging neckline, and a 31-carat Harry Winston necklace to create this stunning look.

MAKE IT YOUR OWN:

Though you can barely even tell, Charlize has sheer illusion straps on her dress, which are what maintain the beautiful shape of her gown. Too often we want to wear a strapless dress and it ends up not fitting the way we want it to because of the lack of support from straps. When wearing a plunging neckline, you’re going to want that support, even if it be somewhat invisible like what Charlize’s gown had. And although we all may not be able to borrow jewelry from Harry Winston for the night, we certainly can take note from Charlize and look for simple, yet elegant jewelry to make a statement – and it makes a head turning one when paired with that kind of neckline. Finish off with sleek, straight, shiny hair, a nude lip to show off your natural beauty, some light eye makeup and – voila! You’re Charlize-Theron-gorgeous!

It seems that the trend this year was using hair, makeup, and fashion to really bring out your own natural beauty. With Lupita’s “Princess of Kenya” charm, Emma Watson’s edge on a classic mermaid style gown, and Charlize Theron’s new spin on the little black dress – it’s hard to go wrong when choosing your own celebrity spirit animal. It’s all about finding the styles that would best boost your own individual beauty. Whether you want to look like a pampered princess, a rambunctious rockstar, or just stunningly sexy in a classic look, the Oscar’s red carpet is always a great starting point for inspiration.
